A proposed pedestrian tunnel in NoMa linking the east side of the railroad tracks with the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station may not be a pipe dream after all.
Behind the scenes, a team of Union Market-area developers has asked the District to approve a tax-increment financing packaging that includes $22 million to finance construction of the tunnel.
Outdoor gear retailer REI Inc. will bump up the pay for many of its Washington-area employees and plans to start new employees at its forthcoming flagshipstore at rates commensurate to that higher pay, company executives said last week.
The move, which will increase pay for REI employees in several high cost-of-living cities by anywhere from 5 to 15 percent, comes after more than 2,000 people signed a petition launched by REI employees calling for “guaranteed stable hours, a three-week advance notice of schedules, a guaranteed living wage and more full-time opportunity.” (All the signatories are not necessarily employees of the outfitter; anyone can sign the petition and 299 of those who have signed self-identified as REI employees, according to a spokesman for Coworker.org.)

Once again, Washington, D.C.-based developer Forest City Washington is making moves to construct another mixed-use development in Navy Yard. The developer plans on redeveloping a surface parking lot at Parcel L, which is bounded by Tingey Street SE on the north, 3rd Street SE on the east, Water Street SE on the south, and 2nd Street SE on the west.
