Angelique “Angel” Brunner is the CEO and Founder of EB5 Capital. EB5 Capital, founded in 2008, is a $750 million commercial real estate investment firm with more than 25 projects across all commercial real estate asset classes. The company has served 1600 clients, from 65 countries, creating more than 35,000 U.S. jobs to-date.
Over the course of her 25-year career, Ms. Brunner worked in various aspects of capital markets, real estate, and early stage funding. She’s an active global angel investor and advisor across industries including consumer goods, manufacturing, and software. Ms. Brunner served on the board of Chesapeake Lodging Trust until its sale to Park Hotels and Resorts in 2019. In Q3 of 2020, she was appointed to and currently serves on the board of Cushman & Wakefield (NYSE: CWK).
Awards and Recognitions:
Brian Ostar has been with EB5 Capital since January 2011, and works at the Washington, D.C. office. As President, Brian oversees EB5 Capital’s investor development and relations, agent communications, immigration matters and manages the operations of the Washington, D.C. office. Brian is also in charge of overseas marketing efforts and frequently travels overseas for project promotion. He has previously served as the Membership Chairman of IIUSA and continues to be active within industry organizations and events, both domestically and abroad. Before moving to Washington, D.C. to begin his career at EB5 Capital, Brian spent over two years working at a consulting firm in China, where he became proficient in Mandarin. Brian is a frequent speaker on real estate and the EB-5 Program at Georgetown University and Johns Hopkins University. He is a graduate of Cornell University, has a Master’s Degree in Education from Brooklyn College as well as a Master’s Degree in Real Estate Finance from Georgetown University.
Director, Business Development
Juline Kaleyias joined EB5 Capital in September 2012. As the Director of Business Development, Juline’s primary role is to pursue strategic opportunities, cultivate partnerships, and identify new markets for the firm. As an experienced member of the Investor Relations team, Juline has a track record of driving business growth and leading foreign investors through the immigration and investment process multiple times. Prior to joining the EB5 Capital team, she spent three years teaching and studying in China, and became fluent in Mandarin. Juline has lived and worked a considerable time overseas across multiple geographic locations. She graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in Economics and Chinese and holds a master’s degree in International Trade and Investment Policy from The George Washington University.
Daniel Shiff joined the team at EB5 Capital in 2012, and works out of the Washington, D.C. office. As a current principal of the real estate brokerage firm, Phillips Realty Capital, Dan led his company’s joint venture with EB5 Capital and serves as Managing Director of the venture. As Managing Director, Dan is responsible for the sourcing and closing of all of EB5 Capital’s real estate investments, as well as their structuring and oversight. Before joining EB5 Capital, Dan worked in the real estate business for over 25 years, and has originated in excess of $3 billion in real estate transactions of all commercial property types. Dan currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University, as well as a Master’s Degree from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
Senior Vice President, Investments
Jonathan Mullen joined the EB5 Capital team in 2012, and is based out of the Washington, D.C. office. As Senior Vice President of Investments, Jon has been directly involved in the structuring and closing of all of EB5 Capital’s investments. Jon works with EB5 Capital’s developer partners, and closely monitors the progress of each project. Before he started at EB5 Capital, Jon worked at Phillips Realty Capital for over a decade and participated in the origination and underwriting of more than $2 billion in debt and equity financing of commercial real estate. Jon currently holds a real estate license for the state of Maryland. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Richmond, and has a Master’s Degree in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School.
Vice President, Investments
Patrick Rainey has worked for EB5 Capital in the Washington, D.C. office since April 2014. As Vice President of Investments, Patrick is responsible for managing the due diligence review process for all of EB5 Capital’s deals before their final internal approval and release to the EB-5 market. Patrick also oversees the preparation of all consultant reports and offering documents prior to the start of fundraising. Before joining EB5 Capital, Patrick worked for nearly eight years as a Senior Associate of Acquisitions & Development for DRI Development Services, a real estate development company in Washington, D.C. Patrick is an active member of the D.C. chapter of the Urban Land Institute’s Young Leaders organization. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy from the College of William and Mary.
Vice President, Corporate Communications & Operations
Mariana Gomez has worked at EB5 Capital since September 2013, and works in the Washington, D.C. office. As Vice President of Corporate Communications & Operations, Mariana is responsible for leading the company’s updates and communications with investors. Fluent in both Spanish and English, Mariana assists the sales team with Latin American clients. Before moving to the United States, Mariana’s professional experience was in the field of labor law, including a law clerk position at Squire, Saunders & Dempsey in Venezuela. Mariana received her J.D. from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in her hometown of Caracas, Venezuela, and holds a Master of European Union Law from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, as well as a Master’s in International Law from American University.
Senior Vice President & General Counsel
Lulu Gordon joined EB5 Capital in January 2015, and is based in Massachusetts. She brings over 30 years of experience in law and finance. As Senior Vice President & General Counsel, Lulu manages EB5 Capital’s Legal Services team and oversees all legal affairs for EB5 and its affiliates, including project offerings, EB-5 program compliance and reporting, as well as government affairs and outside legal counsel. She is admitted to practice law in both California and New York. Lulu serves on the IIUSA Policy Committee and is a member of the EB-5 Investment Coalition and the Association of Corporate Counsel. Prior to joining the team at EB5 Capital, Lulu practiced with several prestigious law firms, including Shea & Gould, McCutchen, Doyle and Wilson Sonsini and held senior positions in private equity and wealth management. Immediately prior to joining EB5 she served as a Managing Director at Ascent Private Capital Management of U.S. Bank. Lulu is a graduate of Dartmouth College, and earned her law degree from Georgetown University.
Senior Vice President, Finance & Accounting
Caroline Ahern joined EB5 Capital in September 2014 as the Director of Finance & Accounting and now serves as the department’s Senior Vice President. She manages all corporate accounting operations including financial reporting, payroll, cash management, and income taxes. Caroline studied finance and accounting at the University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business in Richmond, VA, where she graduated summa cum laude. Upon graduation, Caroline passed the CPA exam in Virginia while starting her career as an auditor at Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP (formerly Beers + Cutler), the 12th largest accounting and consulting firm in the U.S. Caroline is a practiced accountant with diverse experience working in both public and corporate accounting roles. Prior to her current role at EB5 Capital, she was the Assistant Controller for the Washington Redskins.
Chief Financial Officer
Joseph Tilley joined the team at EB5 Capital in 2012, and works out of the Washington, D.C. office. In his role as Chief Financial Officer, Joe oversees EB5 Capital’s accounting, finance, IT and human resources functions. In addition to his current role at EB5 Capital, Joe works at Phillips Realty Capital, where he has served as the Chief Operating and Financial Officer for twenty-six years, overseeing PRC’s $2.5 billion commercial real estate loan portfolio. Joe is a frequent speaker for the Mortgage Bankers Association, as well as a published author in the Journal of Taxation, the Washington Business Journal, the Corridor Real Estate News, and various other professional publications. Joe received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Delaware and then successfully completed the CPA examination.
